Atmospheric Plasma Pretreatments for Enhanced Drying >

Overview

Plasma is one of the four fundamental states of matter (solid, liquid, gas, plasma). There is some suggestion in the literature that plasma can be used to assist in drying certain materials. The objectives of this project are to 1) Set up a plasma pre-treatment system, 2) Evaluate how plasma pre-treatments affect drying rate and food quality (microstructures of food systems), and evaluate the energy consumption of plasma pre-treatments versus hot-air drying.
