Optical Fiber Noses for Real-Time, In-Line Gas and Aroma Sensing in Drying > <

Overview

This project aims to develop an optical fiber nose composed of multiple optical fiber gas sensors, each with different responsivities to different gas species. The combination of all the sensor readouts allows for differentiation of aromas and gas mixtures. The three fiber sensors can be mounted on the dryer sidewall or inserted below the food surface. All three sensors will be powered and read out by a single read-out system. In the first year, the focus is on demonstrating the concept of the optical nose. In later years, we will work on motion insensitivity, temperature effect decoupling, and multiple sensors in the optical fiber nose.
